In Morocco in 2026, a digital transformation audit costs between MAD 15,000 and 50,000 (excluding VAT) for a light diagnostic, MAD 60,000 to 200,000 for a full audit, and MAD 200,000 or more for a sector-specific or multi-site engagement. Behind those ranges the gaps are huge, depending on who audits, what gets audited and what you actually hold in your hands at the end.

This guide is for the owner or IT manager of a Moroccan SME who is considering having processes, data or infrastructure reviewed before launching a digital project, and who wants to understand prices, deliverables and pitfalls before asking a consultancy or an IT services company for quotes.

We are not talking about the cost of the projects that follow: each of those already has its own guide on this blog. We are talking about the upstream phase, the one almost nobody prices publicly.

Why the digital transformation audit cost stays opaque for Moroccan SMEs

Three reasons explain the fog. First, the word “audit” does not describe a standard deliverable. Depending on the provider, it can mean a two-hour workshop followed by a sales deck, or six weeks of interviews, analysis and presentations. Both are called a “digital diagnostic” on the proposal.

Second, many IT services companies and agencies offer the audit for free. That is not generosity, it is pre-sales. The real work amounts to two or three days, and the recommendations naturally converge on whatever the provider knows how to sell. This breaks any price comparison: how do you compare MAD 0 and MAD 120,000 for what looks like the same thing?

Third, daily rates are almost never published. A senior freelance consultant, a Casablanca firm and an international consultancy do not bill the same day, and the final quote is just a multiplication: number of days × daily rate. If either factor is hidden, you cannot check anything.

Digital transformation audit cost: 2026 price ranges by type of diagnostic

Here are the orders of magnitude we see on the Moroccan market, excluding VAT, for an SME with 20 to 250 employees. They are indicative: a serious quote always spells out the number of days and the rate applied.

Digital transformation audit cost in Morocco: 2026 pricing

  • Light or “flash” diagnostic (3 to 8 person-days): MAD 15,000 to 50,000. Five to ten interviews, a rough map of tools and workflows, a 15 to 30-page report with three to five priorities. Enough to decide where to start, not enough to budget.
  • Full audit (15 to 40 person-days): MAD 60,000 to 200,000. Processes, information system, data, technical debt, baseline security, interviews at every level, and a costed roadmap over 12 to 24 months. This is the format that normally precedes a tender.
  • Sector-specific, multi-site or with technical testing (40 person-days and up): MAD 200,000 to 500,000, sometimes more. A manufacturer with several plants, a distributor with a branch network, or a regulated sector (healthcare, insurance, finance) where compliance weighs as much as efficiency.

The daily rates behind those figures: MAD 3,000 to 6,000 for a senior freelance consultant, MAD 5,000 to 9,000 for a local firm or IT services company, MAD 10,000 to 20,000 and up for an international consultancy. A MAD 120,000 audit can therefore be 24 days from a local firm or 8 days from an international one: not the same depth.

As for the free audit: accept it if you know what it is, namely a structured first contact. Never treat it as an independent basis for decisions, and never let it replace a written specification.

What an audit really covers: processes, data, technical debt, security

A good audit answers four questions, and the quote should state which ones are included.

Processes

How does a quote travel to an invoice, an order to a delivery, a candidate to a contract? Where are the double entries, the approvals by email, the Excel files only one person knows how to use, the WhatsApp groups that serve as production management? That is where most of the return on investment hides.

Data

Where are your customer, supplier and product data? Are they duplicated between the accounting software, the CRM and shared folders? Who has access? Can they be exported cleanly, or are you locked into a tool? Without that answer, any BI or AI project is built on sand.

Technical debt

Age and version of applications, a custom ERP built ten years ago by a vendor that no longer exists, hosting, licences actually being paid, backups, dependence on a single person or a single company. The audit should estimate what keeping things as they are would cost over three years.

Security

A full audit establishes a baseline: tested or untested backups, two-factor authentication, shared accounts, former employees whose access is still active. It does not replace a penetration test, which is a separate service generally billed between MAD 30,000 and 120,000 depending on scope. If someone sells you an “audit with security included” for MAD 40,000, ask what “security” means.

Deliverables to require: a written report, a prioritisation matrix (impact, cost, risk), a roadmap with budget ranges, and an oral presentation to management. Before signing, ask for an anonymised sample report from a previous engagement. A provider who refuses may have nothing to show.

What moves the quote: company size, number of sites, urgency

The first factor is the number of interviews. Auditing a 25-person company on one site takes a week in the field; a 200-person company spread across Casablanca, Tangier and Agadir takes three, travel included. The second is the number of applications and interfaces: every extra tool, every file exchange between two systems adds half a day of analysis.

Then come:

  • Scope. The whole company, or only the order-to-delivery chain? A tight scope often halves the price without losing the essentials.
  • Urgency. A report demanded within two weeks means two consultants instead of one: expect 20 to 30% more.
  • Sector. Healthcare, insurance, finance, agri-food exports: regulatory requirements lengthen data collection.
  • Your team’s availability. An audit where interviews get postponed three times costs more, in billed days or in delay.

To bring the quote down without degrading the work: prepare in advance the org chart, the list of applications with their contracts and annual costs, the three or four biggest pain points reported by staff, and appoint a single point of contact who schedules the meetings. A serious firm will cut the number of days accordingly.

How long an audit takes: realistic timelines

A flash diagnostic fits in one to two calendar weeks. A full audit takes four to eight weeks. A sector-specific or multi-site engagement stretches over two to four months. These timelines far exceed the number of billed days, because the bottleneck is not the consultant: it is your managers’ calendars.

The typical sequence of a full audit: one week of framing (scope, schedule, document collection), two to three weeks of interviews and observation, one to two weeks of analysis and costing, one week of presentation and adjustments. Avoid launching the interview phase just before Ramadan, in August or during the accounting close: the schedule will slip.

Internal diagnostic, independent consultancy or IT services company: who to pick and why

The internal diagnostic. Entrusted to the IT manager or a motivated executive, it costs only time. It is useful as a pre-diagnostic: list the tools, the pain points, the annual costs. Its limits: no comparison with other companies, the difficulty of challenging one’s own colleagues’ choices, and lack of time.

The independent consultancy that builds nothing. Its neutrality is real: it has no project to sell afterwards. Its risks: a higher daily rate and, sometimes, recommendations that look elegant on paper but are disconnected from what an SME budget and the providers available in Morocco can actually deliver.

The IT services company or agency that audits and then builds. The audit is cheaper, and continuity between diagnostic and execution saves you from explaining everything twice. The conflict of interest is obvious: the diagnostic may conclude in favour of the house technologies. It can be managed with four precautions: pay for the audit as a separate service, obtain full ownership of the deliverables, write down that you remain free to consult other providers for what follows, and require recommendations expressed as needs rather than product names.

Our guide to choosing a Morocco IT services company details the selection criteria; they apply to choosing an auditor as well. Four questions to ask before signing: how many days, with whom exactly, which deliverables, and who owns the report.

CNDP and confidentiality: what an audit should check from day one

An auditor will read your contracts, customer files, HR data and accounting exports. Before the first interview, a signed non-disclosure agreement is the minimum. Specify where the documents you hand over are stored (a laptop, a foreign cloud, a server in Morocco?), who can access them at the provider, and on what date they are destroyed after the engagement.

On substance, Law 09-08 on the protection of personal data imposes obligations on every Moroccan company that processes customer or employee data, and a digital audit is the right moment to take stock. A serious audit inventories your personal-data processing, checks whether your declarations or authorisation requests to the CNDP exist, examines transfers to hosting providers abroad and flags data collected without a clear purpose. The exact formalities evolve: check the CNDP website for the current requirements, and be wary of an auditor who declares that “everything is in order” without having looked at your filings.

Our CNDP and Law 09-08 compliance checklist lets you prepare this part internally before the firm arrives, which reduces billed days.

Turning audit findings into a budgeted roadmap

An audit report sleeping in a drawer has cost 100% of its price for 0% of its value. The next step is to convert findings into workstreams, each with a problem, a candidate solution, a budget range, a success metric and an internal owner.

Sort them into three horizons. Quick wins (0 to 3 months, often under MAD 50,000 each): electronic signature, automated backups, a SaaS CRM for the sales team. Structural projects (3 to 12 months): integrating the ERP with the e-commerce site, migrating an ageing server, a management dashboard. Transformational projects (12 to 24 months): overhauling the information system, automating a business process with AI. To cost these, our existing guides give you orders of magnitude, for instance for a cloud migration or an AI project.

A sanity rule: the audit should cost in the region of 5 to 10% of the first-year budget of the projects it triggers. A MAD 150,000 audit to steer MAD 300,000 of projects is oversized; a MAD 20,000 flash diagnostic to commit MAD 2 million is reckless.

Finally, use the report to write your specifications: quotes received on the basis of a shared audit can be compared with each other. Our article on the digital transformation roadmap for Moroccan SMEs walks through that sequence step by step, once the diagnostic is done.
